Understanding VLAN: Benefits and How to Implement It

Fajar Ramadhan21 Jun 2026

A VLAN (Virtual LAN) lets you logically separate traffic on the same physical switch — for example keeping guest Wi-Fi, VoIP phones, and internal servers isolated from each other without needing separate hardware.

On MikroTik, VLANs are configured via Interface > VLAN with a tagged trunk port to your switch, then bridged or routed per VLAN ID as needed. This is one of the core topics covered in our MTCNA training.
